New Delhi. : The landmark India–UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is creating new opportunities for Indian sustainability and circular economy companies to expand globally by strengthening collaboration in digital trade, technology, investment, professional services and innovation. For Gurugram-based waste management and sustainability company 3R ZeroWaste, the agreement presents a significant opportunity to expand its integrated circular economy solutions to the United Kingdom and other international markets.
“The India–UK FTA is much more than a trade agreement. It creates a powerful platform for Indian sustainability companies to scale globally through technology partnerships, digital innovation and knowledge exchange. It gives Indian circular economy businesses the opportunity to export not just products, but complete sustainability solutions,” said Shiv Rao Challa, Founder, 3R ZeroWaste.
With the UK placing increasing emphasis on circular economy practices, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), ESG reporting and responsible resource management, demand for technology-enabled waste management and sustainability solutions is expected to grow substantially. Having developed integrated waste management systems, Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), Integrated Recycling Units (IRUs), e-waste recycling programmes and ESG advisory services in India, 3R ZeroWaste sees the agreement as an important catalyst for international expansion.
The FTA is expected to improve market access for services, encourage technology collaboration and facilitate smoother mobility of skilled professionals. These provisions will enable Indian sustainability enterprises to work more closely with UK municipalities, corporates, recycling companies and environmental institutions to develop locally relevant circular economy solutions.
A major focus area for the company is KarmaVer$e, its digital sustainability platform that incentivises responsible environmental behaviour through KarmaCoins, rewarding citizens for activities such as recycling, waste segregation and adopting low-carbon lifestyles. The platform is envisioned as a comprehensive digital ecosystem connecting citizens, businesses, recyclers and local authorities through verified sustainability actions, digital waste traceability and measurable environmental impact.
Building on the opportunities created by the FTA, 3R ZeroWaste has outlined a three-year international growth roadmap. The company plans to strengthen its presence across India while establishing pilot operations in London and Dubai, positioning these locations as strategic hubs for exporting Indian circular economy solutions, sustainability consulting services and digital innovation to global markets.
Over the next three years, the company aims to recover an additional 10,000 metric tonnes of waste through integrated circular economy programmes, including plastic, dry recyclable, organic and e-waste streams. These initiatives are expected to prevent approximately 23,700 metric tonnes of CO₂e emissions through enhanced recycling, resource recovery and circular economy interventions.
To support this expansion, 3R ZeroWaste plans to strengthen its recycling infrastructure by developing additional 25-30 Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), expanding collection networks and deploying digital waste management systems. The company also intends to conduct over 1,000 citizen awareness and sustainability engagement programmes while building partnerships with corporates, municipalities, educational institutions and government agencies.
Recognising innovation as a key driver of the circular economy, 3R ZeroWaste is exploring research collaborations with leading UK universities. Proposed partnerships include Kingston University London to advance AI-powered waste segregation, robotics-enabled sorting systems, IoT-based smart waste management and intelligent recycling infrastructure, as well as London South Bank University to collaborate on advanced recycling technologies, chemical engineering of plastic polymers, critical metal recovery and sustainable manufacturing using secondary raw materials.
“The future of sustainability lies in global collaboration. The India–UK FTA creates the right ecosystem for Indian innovation to contribute to international circular economy goals. Through technology partnerships, research collaboration and digital innovation, solutions developed in India can help businesses and communities worldwide build more resource-efficient and climate-resilient systems,” said Jaya Rao Challa, Co-Founder, 3R ZeroWaste.
As governments and industries accelerate their transition towards climate resilience and resource efficiency, the India–UK Free Trade Agreement is expected to provide a strong platform for Indian sustainability enterprises to showcase globally competitive innovations. For 3R ZeroWaste, the agreement represents not only an opportunity for international business expansion but also a chance to position India’s circular economy expertise and digital sustainability innovations on the global stage.
